Tanner was a fantastic guide from the Avonlea Museum. He had some many amazing facts and tidbits about the Avonlea Badlands area. The hour and a half walking tour was amazing from the rock formations to the different plants to the animal life. We practically covered almost every square inch. We were able to walk right up to the hoodoos and climbed up a massive butte. It was so amazing to see them up close and personal with a guided tour. Definitely an amazing experience that I will never soon forget!

I went on the badlands tour with the Avonlea museum. The guide Tanner was very knowledgable and knew the area very well. He had no trouble answering the questions I had. The badlands were beautiful.
The tour itself costs $15 dollars a person. With the "covid situation" their tours a
re private this year. Make sure you bring water and bugspray as the mosquitos can be really bad as you are walking threw call grass.
I went for an evening tour so I didn't check out the museum itself. The museum admission is included in the price of the badlands tour. I did check out the grounds -they jave quite an impressive looking wood boxcar.
I want to ho back later this summer and check out the museum as well.

We stopped here after visiting the Claybank Brick Heritage Site, and this museum is well worth a visit. It's a large museum in an old train station, but has several buildings to walk through. A very nice young man took us through on a tour, which I think made it better then just walking through alone. He was very knowledgeable and clearly cared about the subject matter. $5 a person and worth it to keep a piece of history funded and cared for.

Had a great time visiting the museum very well done. The train station was fascinating. The farmers' market in the parking lot was small but filled with some great stuff. We went on the Badlands tour and had an amazing time. Hard to believe that such a place existed just beyond sight.

We spent a weekend in the Avonlea area so my husband could return to a place where he lived for a few years when he was growing up. We had a wonderful time and found the hospitality of the people in this area to be second to none. It was a Saturday, which is the market day for the town, so we were able to join in a barbeque with the locals. We were given a guided tour of the Museum by a young man who was so proud of the history of his town. How refreshing to see someone of his age taking an interest in volunteering to take visitors through the exhibits.
We also took the tour of the Avonlea Badlands, which is not far from the town. We had two marvelous local guides who spend two hours with us hiking through the Badlands. We learned so much about the history of the area, the native plants, birds and animals. The Badlands are beautiful and we enjoyed every minute. Make sure to take your camera. This tour is on private land, so the only way to see the Badlands is to book ahead through the museum. The cost is only $15 per person, which includes the Museum tour. If you take the Badlands tour, wear sturdy footwear, since there is a lot of walking and some climbing. If it is hot, take a hat and lots of water. This was a very enjoyable way to spend a day.
If you have more time to spend in this area, the Claybank Brick Factory, a National Historic Site is close by. You can take a guided tour or self tour and they have a very good restaurant.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here! They've got lots of historical artifacts and have them all grouped very well so that you can easily see what they would have been used for etc. They have a barber shop, a grocery store, a rail station, a school, a jail....etc all in separate rooms with matching artifacts. Very interesting if you love history. Awesome place even to take a school class from Grades 4 and up for a tour. Admission was $5 each. This place is very accessible and easily tourible for the handicapped and elderly as well. Younger children may have difficulty not playing with stuff!

This is an amazing treasure on the open prairies. Since this is on private land you book a guide through the Avonlea Museum. For those who like badlands and a peaceful, natural setting this is a place to renew your spirit and connection with nature. We had a delightful guide who loves the area. I felt I had stepped back in time before the settlers arrived.
This is suitable only for those who are quite fit because the walking is steep at times and there isn't a trail. It can be quite hot at midday so you would want to consult the museum about suitable times.
This is probably open only in July and August.
An easy drive from Regina. We had an excellent lunch at the golf course nearby.
