Mooi museum ,heel veel spullen.baaa is niet zo aardig en als je wat wilt kopen is heel erg duur.woj moesten hier erg veel voor rijden maar dat is niet de moeite waard

If staying in a hotel in the valley you get a 'card' which offers free entrance to this museum - and it is well worth a visit as it is a quirky wooden building full of wooden tools etc from the past - all hand made. Many wooden carvings of everything from eagles to a pool of fish! Most interesting and worth a visit.

Viel kann man nicht machen in der Wildschönau wenn es regnet, aber das Holzmuseum gehört zu den wenigen Indoor-Angeboten. Deswegen sind wir hingefahren, um den Vormittag rumzubringen. Wer kein vertieftes Interesse an Holzschnitzerei etc. hat, wird in einer Stunde durch sein. Es sind zwar sehr viele Exponate in 72 "Räumen", die meistens eng und völlig zugestellt sind, aber es fehlen häufig Beschreibungen. Einen roten Faden, der den Besucher thematisch durch die Ausstellung leitet, gibt es nicht. Manchmal sind Dinge chronologisch sortiert, manchmal thematisch, häufig gar nicht. Man merkt, dass das Museum privater Natur ist und nie einen professionellen Kurator gesehen hat, der ein wenig Ordnung ins Chaos bringt. Zehn Euro Eintritt und einen Euro Fotografieerlaubnis fanden wir dann doch ziemlich teuer. Wir können es eher nicht empfehlen.

This place is wonderful! So interesting in so many ways! Entry is reasonable at 8.50 per person, and you can spend a good few hours here, it's all very fascinating! The owner is really friendly too, just make sure you don't go in too close to noon, as he closes for lunch.

Based in Auffach, it looks intriguing and we had good reports. However, on the day we visited it appeared to have been abandoned. It was a weekday about 2.00 Oclock . The "open" sign was displayed and the door was open. However there was a temporary wooden barrier across the door with a brief message in German . We shouted and rang the bell as directed. Silence. The inside was dark, unlit , and obviously bereft of visitors. After a couple of attempts and bell ringing we adjourned to the hotel opposite and had a leisurely drink and ice cream . The table server assured us that the museum should be open, and indeed she looked out over the road and confirmed what we already knew, that the "open" sign was displayed. After about 3/4 hour we returned and went through he rigmarole again. No response. We eventually gave up and caught the bus back to Niederau. We can only recommend you phone first and find out if anyone answers. Not wise just to turn up. Shame because it looked interesting.

I spent almost four hours in this family owned museum of just about every possible way of appreciating wood carving. It costs 7 euros to enter with one euro concession. As a precaution against theft, visitors deposit their hand baggage in a secure compartment which is provided including key. The collection is viewed with a handy guide which takes the visitor from rooms which are themed: production, history, agricultural and garden tools etc. There is video visual displays and Hubert Salcher - a genius in wooden carving and sculpture is on hand to take questions. His wife Katerina is also most helpful. The range of wooden representations in sacred and secular art is truly stunning. This is a museum to be taken at a leisurely pace so allowing for time is crucial. If you know little about the skills and beauty of wood carving when entering this spectacular venue you are sure to exit it educated and enthralled.

Dette er et morsomt sted både voksne og barn. Her finner du treskjæring og trekonstruksjon i alle former. Stedet ser helt merkelig ut fra utsiden, med figurer og mennesker i alle former. Til og med en liten modelljernbane i hagen (også fylt med treskjæringer).
