My husband and I visited this little gem of a place on Friday 21st October.
Roz and Anna were our guides and they were so interesting and were so well informed. I highly recommend the tour as it's included in the admission price. The highlight for me was seeing the bed (well part of it) reputedly slept in by Richard 111 the night before his death!
Your admission ticket is good for a year from purchase so we'll be sure to visit again when we are in the area next year.
Gardens are lovely and well kept.
The tea room is very good too.

What a stunning find! The house and gardens are completely staffed by volunteers, whose knowledge of the history of the house and the plants in the garden is incredible. All obviously have a personal love of the house. Our guide Carole was amusing, very patient and passed on lots of interesting information. I would definitely recommend taking a guided tour (no extra cost!) Lovely sausage cob and coffee to finish our visit!

I am from this county (though moved away years ago) and never knew about this place. Taken by relatives today, it was a revelation! Such an amazing place to visit, our visit was enhanced by the lovely - and very knowledgeable staff. We were made welcome from the moment we bought our tickets to the last minute chat with them on the way out. The garden signs were very informative, and even though we were past high season, we were able to learn a lot about the useful plants contemporary with the 1600s. The house is furnished in period, and the lute player added to the atmosphere. This beautiful building is evocative of times past, beautifully presented, and I’m glad I’ve been there at last! A piece of Leicestershire history not to be missed!

I took a party of 10 ladies to the 1620's House today. We had a wonderful time. House very interesting. Our guides Steve and Karen were so knowledgeable and friendly.
Lunch in the barn was superb. Definitely worth a trip

Gorgeous historical site that is great value for money - a £5, one-time entry is valid for a year.
The attention to detail and the volunteers passion and knowledge is absolutely wonderful. Our guide, Carole, was attentive, funny and really made a huge effort to make our visit as enjoyable as possible.
An absolute credit to the county's tourism. It is a must-see destination for any visitors local or otherwise.

A real gem of a place, packed with history and very knowledgeable guides. It's a bargain with a free return throughout the year. The gardens are a must see too with all the plants detailed including their history. Not to be missed is the tea room in the barn with homemade cake, truly scrumptious!!! A great place for all ages for history and tea. Do use a guide they are a wealth of knowledge. All the staff here are friendly, smiling faces a real credit to the facility.

Delightful house, furnished to its time: very informative guided tour. Variety of garden rooms with herbs, vegetables and roses, all well labelled, with reference to Shakespearean works. The trees are all named, including a small mixed orchard. Homemade cakes in the cafe.

Wow! An incredible place to visit and Gail was so knowledgeable, we enjoyed the tour and learnt so much!
Also the cafe has delicious homemade vegetable soup and scrumptious cakes!

We discovered the 1620 house a few weeks ago when we attended a plant fare there. This week we returned for a full morning visit and were greatly impressed. The gardens are full of plants that were grown in the period of the house with very detailed information labels - a must see for keen gardeners.
I had expected to allow a fairly short period to look around the house but I was wrong. There was so much to see and our knowledgeable guide really bought the history of the house alive. Visits to this attraction are only possible because of the efforts of the dedicated group of volunteers. We owe it to them to keep the visitor numbers up.
If you are in the area, interested in history, with a morning or afternoon to spare I would strongly advise you not to miss this hidden gem.
(The reason it is the oldest house in Leicestershire is some parts date from 1290 !)

I heard of this wonderful place from a friend who said it would be right up my street as I love history. Our guide, Andy told us about the history of the house and then took us on a tour. He was absolutely brilliant- I loved hearing about the witches’ marks, the ghostly trunk and the lives of those who went before. We had a lovely lunch before venturing into the gardens which were brilliantly set out. I would thoroughly recommend this hidden gem to all who enjoy a day out with a difference.
