This high altitude community maintained sanctuary is a dream for Bird watchers. It is accessable only by road , many part of it was under construction in April 2018. It is best to break the stay at Lama and Bompu camps - and go for long walks on birding trails with local guides. The camps are very basic and clean. People are honest and food was very fresh.

Amazing Himalayan Birding

I spent ten days here last May, and it was an amazing experience. The forest was beautiful, and I saw most of the avian specialties including the spectacular Blyth's Tragopan. If you're interested in birds, I recommend spending three days at Lamcamp, and at least a week on the other side at Bompu (without a guide).

Birdwatching at its best

The biodiversity in Eaglenest is absolutely amazing. The two camps (Lamacamp and Bompucamp) are rather basic, however you are close to the birds and the wildlife. Scenic views add to the overall experience. Probably not very interesting for people who are not into birds or plants.

Great Birding

I came with a bird group to see the special birds in this area. We were not disappointed, I got to see the specialties I was after including Sultan Tit, Beautiful Nutcracker and Himalayan Cutia, all in one mixed flock. We also saw the Bugun Liocichla and Rufous-necked Hornbill. We stayed in both Lama and Bompu camps. Bompu camp was the most comfortable and the food was outstanding. These are both tent camps without heat, be prepared for cold nights and mornings , so bring warm clothes including stocking caps to wear at night and during the morning birding.

Tripadvisor has mentioned wrongly its address. Please note that the correct location is at West Kameng district. This needs to be corrected to help other readers of tripadvisor.

I had an excellent experience. Mr. Indi Glow and his team are the people to get in touch with to organise your once in a life time birding experience. Expert Guide Phurpa is excellent.

Also service and staff at Bompu Camp was excellent. Food was great too.

Nature at its best.

Prime birding site in the country.

First of all, this is not in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh as has been mentioned on tripadvisor. This most beautiful sanctuary is in West Kameng district, headquarter of which is Bomdila. This correction should be made so that tourists get the perspective. It is approachable from Bhalukpong, Tenga and Rupa. Tawang is more than 200 kilometers from here and in Tawang they show total ignorance about this place.
Though approach to this place is from Rupa in West Kameng district, the road is unpaved and difficult. But in terms of flora and fauna, this is the best place. The varieties of birds, mammals, insects, trees you get here is superb. Though not known to many people as Arunachal Pradesh has not developed tourism professionally, this place can beat the best anywhere in the country and even in the world.
