Brilliant guide made the tour!

Our small group tour came here for a guided tour. We had an hour with a guide going round the interior of the palace. The interior is impressive but the guide (in English) really made the tour excellent - he was just so entertaining, with plenty of stories, anecdotes and witty asides as well as a brilliant demonstration of the language of using fans at the time!
Sadly we weren’t given the opportunity to visit the gardens at all in our schedule but they looked very good.

Worth the visit

Stunning palace on the outskirts of Riga with a fascinating history. Going at this time of year was fantastic, as albeit much of the garden was hidden away, we were the only tourists there! Grand designs, fantastic architecture, informative and interactive information screens. Was almost as impressive as Versailles.

A really nice palace close to Riga

While many day trip tour offers exist to get to Rundale, organising this trip by yourself is pretty straight forward to, using regularly running public buses with a short overlay at Bauskas. It was in fact possible to pre-book most of the buses, the bus from Bauskas to Riga had to be purchased at Bauskas bus station though (which showed to be not any problem as well).

We arrived about half an hour before opening. Unfortunately no cafe was open at that point, but a shop was open so we got ourselves a coffee and a snack nonetheless. The palace itself is newly renovated and shows a nice Baroque interior, some of the best of the Baltics. The garden has been refurbished too in a French style manner with a rosary as well. The cafe by the castle has nice beers as well which we had while waiting for the bus back.

In short a nice easy to organise half day trip from Riga.

Go in the winter

We visited this place in the winter and we basically had the whole place to ourselves. Understand that going in the winter you won’t be able to see the gardens. Definitely worth a visit any time of the year

Beautifully renovated palace

This is a beautifully renovated palace. What is interesting is that they have left small patches in the rooms which show the layers of paint which had to be removed to reveal the original decoration. While the contents are not the original contents, the furniture and art is all genuine and age appropriate to create a great visual experience.
The resident guide was very informative.
You have to pay extra to visit the gardens. You can see them from the house and make your own decision as to whether to pay to walk around them.
There is a small cafe in the main building. The food was good and cooked freshly per order, but this does result in (a forewarned by them) wait. There were only about 10 customers on our visit and still a considerable wait for our sandwiches.
Well worth a visit

Beautiful Palace

Rundale Palace is really beautiful, you really do see a lot inside the house, there are some lovely objects to admire. The gardens are amazing too, we visited in September, but there was still plenty of colour in the grounds. Definitely worth visiting

splendido palazzo

Il palazzo di Rundale, merita assolutamente una visita, è veramente spettacolare, è stato progettato da Restelli, un importante architetto italiano del 700', lo stesso che ha progettato l'Hermitage di San Pietroburgo. Il palazzo è bello e ben arredato, gli affreschi del soffitto, realizzati da pittori italiani del 700', sono fantastici. Il biglietto d'ingresso con inclusa la visita dei giardini costa 13 euro, e li merita tutti, consiglio assolutamente una visita.

Рундальский дворец летом

Для тех кто будет добираться на общественном транспорте, из Риги курсируют 2 прямых автобуса в день. Рекомендую покупать билеты заранее. Мы купили билеты туда, а обратно в кассе сказали что надо покупать у водителя. Решили купить билеты обратно по интернету, но все было распродано. Поэтому пришлось покупать билеты до Бауски, они тоже были не на все рейсы. А из Бауски уже ехать до Риги.
На посещение дворца и парка нам хватило 2 часа. Дворец не очень впечатлил. Парк прекрасен. Но мы были в конце июля и розы уже отцветали. Но все равно мы получили удовольствие.
