Let me start by saying that I’ve had a fear of the ocean for as long as I can remember, and now I have a Open Water Dive Certificate.
Instructor: Jenny & Alec @Dive2000
I walked passed Dive2000 on a Saturday morning to get information about their dive course because I wanted to get it for my partners birthday. I was greeted by two friendly faces (the owners), that told me about what they have to offer. I told them about my fear, and they told me that my fear is normal, and that some of the best divers starts off with fear.
A week later I went back and booked a diving course for my partner and myself.
We did the course over 3 days (28, 29 & 30 December 2019).
Day 1 - Pool / Confined dives
Day 2 - 2 x Ocean dives
Day 3 - 2 x Ocean dives
Day 1:
My fear got the better of me and I gave up after being under water in the pool for 1 hour. My instructor (Jenny) told me I should get out of the pool and take a break. After a while, she came back for me!!! Jenny continued the course with me on a one-on-one basis. She was so incredibly patient and understanding and assured me every time I started freaking out, which was a lot.
Day 2:
I got sea sick at the end of our first dive. My instructor told me to have a nap and see how I feel before our second dive. I felt much better after my nap and was able to compete my second dive. My instructor never left my side which made me feel safe.
Day 3:
On our last day my partner was my dive buddy and my fear was dormant. It’s a pretty amazing feeling holding hands after seeing a beautiful fish.
So if you also want to be a certified scuba diver, I highly recommend @Dive2000.
It has truly been an incredible experience dealing with them from start to finish. And if they can help me to overcome my fear of water, they can help anyone.
