Despite mixed winter weather, our recent visit to the museum for Christmas Past was a joy. The bell ringers, Morris & Victorian dancers, and craft classes were involving and entertaining.
The sausage rolls, meat and veggie, slow cooked in a farm oven were lovely.
The general feeling of welcome from the staff was exceeded only by their care when our Grand Daughter, who is a toddler, fell quite badly. All was well but we were made to feel well looked after.
We will be renewing our Annual pass in April when it is due. This museum may run by volunteers, but their standards are exceptional. The toilets stand head and shoulders above those provided by local authorities.
We would love a permanent onside cafe in the future similar to the NAFFI cafe.

The customer care at this museum is outstanding from the time you arrive until the time you leave.
There is lovely range of historical buildings - some reconstructed and some recreated. - and a varied collection of artefacts.
For those who want to stroll about in a leisurely manner, there are plenty of seats where it is possible to take a break on a nice day.
The shop is individualistic and is usually supplemented by a nice range of plants grown by volunteers and very reasonably priced. Although far from local, we always try to take some home with us.

This is a very nice small open air museum in the village of Hutton-Le-Hole. It comprises buildings housing cobblers, coopers, chemists, grocery shop, funeral directors, photographer studio, school room etc all of which are buildings that have been moved to this location and rebuilt as they once were. It is a little bit like St Fagans in Cardiff and even a little bit like the Black Country Living museum but on a much smaller scale. I think, to date, there are about 18 buildings here.
The grounds are pretty good and relatively flat with only a slight incline as you go into the museum. It is suitable for elderly people with walking aids or mobility scooters.
There are a few animals here. We saw chickens, sheep and pigs.
It is very peaceful here, or at least it was when we visited and there are a few places to sit if you feel tired or just want to chill and enjoy the serenity.
The staff are friendly and helpful. There are toilets on site but no parking or cafe.
There is a pub next door and a car park there for £3 per day (currently). There is no coach or bus parking facility.
There is a lovely tea room a few doors away, the staff there are lovely and the prices are reasonable.
Also nearby is a few craft shops, one of which is a chocolate shop and was open when we visited.
I don't think you would need more than 3 hours here to see the museum, visit the tea shop or pub, and the craft shops.

Located in the center if the Yorkshire Moors village of Hutton-le-Hole, a living museum in itself, this is a lovely place to visit. Nice array of ancient farm buildings an cottages along with shops from days long gone. The admission ticket is valid for a whole year! So come again.

This is a MUST excellent place with sooo much history just loved it. All ages would enjoy this museum.
Everything is authentic and takes you way back in time, even the school room with the little wooden desks.

We had just completed a circular walk from Hutton-le-Hole to Lastington and saw this museum and decided to visit. We spent a couple of hours wandering around some very interesting displays and history. Well worthwhile and would be especially interesting for children.

Wonderful museum, lots of houses and shops to look at from the early century plus earlier with excellent history on display, easy to walk around , dog friendly with pub and tea shops next door.

Booked a tramper in advance. The site is generally quite flat, even for mobility aided guests (crutches/sticks/walker).
There was a wedding taking place when we arrived so the cottage was out of action for a little while. Whilst it was occupied, we visited the blacksmiths, cobblers and sweet shop come post office. Ladies in the shop chatted as they weighed out our toffees and reminisced about some of the products that are still available today.
Then we visited the house and read all about witchcraft! Great space, with ramped entrance.
We then decided to walk up to the rear of the site and chatted with a chap about flowers and pollination etc. We fed the pigs (extra minimal charge).
Walking back via the static outdoor museum part. There were chickens in the middle who were quite chatty! There is an orchard/wild flower site where you’ll find picnic tables. Picnic tables also available by the static museum.
Ryedale had a costumed volunteer who was spinning wool. She took great time showing people how to spin and letting them try their hand.
Back to the cottage and a nose around then back to the gift shop. There is a pub right next door, we parked in the pub car park for about £4 for the day. Make sure you pay, otherwise you will end up with a parking ticket!

If you have any interest in folk history at all this place is fascinating. The tickets are valid for a year and we went twice in a week and I would have been happy to return again. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly and there is a lovely gift shop. It has a very large outdoor display of a huge variety of buildings and agricultural equipment, animals and a really interesting indoor display of day to day stuff from times past.

Your admission cost would be as previously advised, 7.20. This allows multiple visits for a 12 month period. It is a delightful resource and I am sure you will enjoy your time there. Good luck.
Who is in charge at Ryedale Folk Museum? As i would love to volunteer to help out for my duke of Edinburgh bronze award, it would be a great experience and i'm very motivated to keep trying and to do my absolute best!😊
