Excellent location, the view and scenery top notch...the picture that is posted on hotel website is not exaggerated at all....it actually even more breath taking to be here in person. Our housekeeper Gin and Pat is excellent host and can't recommend more.

During Covid-19 I have been seeking to get out of Bangkok every 2 weeks to explore Thailand's beaches - what a great time to explore all these magnificent places without tourist hordes; yet, I have huge empathy for the millions of Thais whose livelihoods are devastated by the lack of inbound visitors. The further one goes from Bangkok, the more acute the economic devastation is. And so I encourage all Bangkokians to venture further than just car-accessible locations. Visit the islands and far-flung beaches, they need your support. Railay was a place I always wanted to go to, but often I was less than enthusiastic on account of many pictures showing crowded beaches. However, having been there now, I have clarified my thoughts - Railay is stunning, and the crown jewel is Phranang Beach, on which these two villas are located. Although, compared to pre-Covid times, the beach is almost totally empty, day trippers still come, circa mid-morning, and filter away in the afternoon - indeed the best time to soak up the atmosphere is the late afternoon and evening, and you have the beach all to yourself, Covid or no Covid. The beach is shared only with the Rayavadee Resort, so it really is very private indeed. To stay on this fabled beach, you have only the Resort and these villas to choose from - staying in the villas you may avail of all restaurants at the Resort, so what is the real difference? Well, in my opinion, the reason I come to the seaside is to be, literally, ON the beach. Although the Rayavadee Reort's rooms (cute 2-storey villas actually) are themselves stunning, they are dotted around the Resort amidst lush vegetation, no sea views possible. However, the Macaque and Languor Villas are right-right-right on the beach.....so, you hear the waves, and have unobstructed views. Magical. Impressive. A wonderful thing about these 2 villas is that you may book them by-the-room, which is a genius idea, especially apt for a solo traveller like me - or in fact for any smaller group who do not wish to splash out for a whole villa. On the weekend in question I was the only guest, and so I had run of the house, so to speak. If another room had been rented to another visitor, I do not think it would have been awkward at all - in fact, why would the experience be any different to staying in hotel, where common areas and pools are shared in any case? In reality, I did not sit in the living room a single time, nor did I venture into the pool more than once - I moved between the beach & ocean in all its glory and my bedroom. What else does one need? The staff (Sha, Jinny, Patrick) were brilliant - nothing was too much trouble for them - when I returned from my daily long run on the "mainland" (15 minute boat ride) I was greeted at the pier with ice cold water (that is called exceeding expectations). I could go on but, trust me, the villa staff are brilliant, world-class. I'd easily come back, during and post Covid. This is one of the most beautiful settings of any beach accommodation in Thailand.…

The pictures on Cowrie website for these villas is 100% accurate. The accommodation is of a very high standard and very spacious. The pool turned out to be bigger/deeper than the picture gave me the impression of. We happily sat on the front deck taking in the fabulous scenery for hours. There is a fence at the front of property which hides the view of the passing people on the beach so can just enjoy the view of the sea, cliffs and boats. The on site staff are fantastic and couldn’t be more helpful. They prepare a lovely breakfast too! It takes about 10 mins to walk round to east Railay. A very pleasant walk. You are also permitted to walk through the grounds of the adjoining rayavadee resort which the villas used to be part of. This route can lead you to the east side but also is a great short cut for getting to west Railay beach. As you will see from previous review and any other review of Phranang beach, it gets busy from 9/10am to 4/5pm. If you get up at sunrise you can have the beach to yourself for a couple of magical hours and then sit on the villa deck and relax whilst the hordes arrive. …
