We stayed here after looking online at budget places to stay. After reading mixed reviews about the owner not being friendly we decided to check it out for ourselves as the rooms were decently priced. On arrival the owner was abrupt but explained everything which we didn’t mind. The rooms were fan operated with mosquito nets but there were a lot of bugs which didn’t help settle me in. There was a light bulb missing in the room which made it more dark. The showers were basic but hot. The bed was comfortable but you were given a thick duvet to sleep in the heat with. The rooms were dusty and minimally cleaned on arrival - our room was then not cleaned at all throughout our stay. We only got clean towels once and we had to ask for toilet roll as we were only given small amount for 3 nights. The guesthouse operates as a restaurant too but quite pricy. There are price lists for laundry, bus tickets, tours and bicycles were highlighted but when asked about it the prices quoted were more expensive which made me wonder why his posters were not updated. There was no kettle facilities or fridges. We got a free small bottle of water on arrival with a sign saying “water refill” but we’re told no when asked at reception. The hammock was old and you lay on the floor when lying it which is a shame because the location itself is quiet and calming. Every morning we tried to say good morning (even in Laos language as the owner said he did not speak good English) and we didn’t even get a verbal response which made us feel on edge. The only thing the owner was willing to speak about was buying bus tickets with him but after giving all of our money to him for laundry and bicycles with no hint of satisfaction we decided to take our money elsewhere to buy bus tickets which again we were given a dissatisfied response from him. Overall if you want value for money for a room this is the place. It is quiet but is a bit out of the way 20 minute walk from Don Khon life. However, if you want to have even the smallest amount of interaction or positivity from a host then take your money elsewhere
The owner here only wants your money. He isn’t interested in greeting with a smile or saying hello in his native language. A complete lack of hospitality. Lack of English is not an excuse for him as body language isn’t hard to learn!
Our room was cleaned once during our three night stay. I wish we stayed somewhere more appreciative.
