If you want peace and quiet it does not get any better. It's clearly perfect if you are dining at Talbooth or Milsoms as they are completely geared up for picking up and dropping off. Seemless. The hotel has character and is beautifully set out with very individual rooms Staff are great and make you feel welcome. There's no lifts so second floor is a bit of a climb so perhaps a light bag! The pool and spa are new and grand however the pool is unheated so for the brave in winter so keep tp hot tub!
We came away for a night with friends to celebrate our birthdays, with dinner at the restaurant. Our room was absolutely gorgeous, as was our friends room. Individual and very stylish. Bed and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud. The service in this hotel from the lovely staff is a joy. Unfortunately we could not try the pool but we will be back next year to try then. This lovely hotel ticks all the boxes and more.
Stayed here as part of our anniversary. Was greeted and handed an envelope with ”information” we were told. It contained the menu for breakfast. Keys and key code for getting in. Drinks could be ordered up until only 9.30pm as the staff left after this time. So we pre ordered drinks tie our room as were eating at Le Talbooth whereby they would ferry us to and from the restaurant. We were told we could have breakfast in our room and then asked if we wanted a cooked one to let them know which we did. So handed firms back in after choosing in our room. Then got another turn to detail what we wanted for cooked breakfast and time we wanted it. So filled it in handed it back. In the morning we waited until 8.30 and still no breakfast. We rang reception who then said if we had to take it at the Milano hotel as that’s where cooked breakfasts were served. We were told none of this information on arrival. Nor where the hot tub and pool were or what times they opened and shut. They shut at 8.30pm which meant no romantic hot tub experience around the outdoor fire with honesty bar. You can’t check in until after 4pm and then checkout is at 11am. We couldn’t use the pool house in the morning as it was all being cleaned and pool was covered over and so was the hot tub. This was at 9.30am. We therefore paid for use of both for nothing as no time to actually use them fully unless you book 2 nights stay. Huge disappointment as this was the reason we stayed there in the first place. The bed was comfortable and huge and the room spacious. The bathroom looked a little tired considering how much the rooms cost but was adequately stocked and the mini bar had soft drinks only and there was a coffee machine in the room, however coffee was awful. Our drinks we ordered, 2 baileys, had got warm and ice melted by time we got back. Just felt like we’d been abandoned completely. I felt like staff just presumed that we knew how the hotel ran and that we knew what and where to go and the times of everything. All in all a lovely place to stay but totally lacked in customer service, which tainted the celebration of our anniversary. We would not go back there and would probably stay at the Milsom for these reasons.…
BULLET POINTS 1 On arrival NO RECEPTION AREA - wondered around outside aimlessly until stumbled across a member of staff through a window. Given loads of forms and a drink. Member of staff very pleasant and helpful 2. Going out for the evening had a bath couldn't wash my hair as NO hairdryer 3. No instructions - TV, (is there a hairdryer?) telephone assistance etc Most hotels (due to COVID) leave a single sheet photocopy. 4. On returning cant get in as I have left the code in my other handbag (my fault) its like an old B and B in the 70s Telephone number on front door goes to answer phone. Have to drive to Milsoms and ask for help. The Maison Talbooth is out in the stick and there is a large car park at the front of the hotel, as a woman on her own with no reception, it is creepy. 5. Back in my room I decide to have a cup of tea - NO MILK - NO cup of tea 6. Breakfast - if you are happy with cocopops (classy) and a bit of toast - alls good. But should you want an egg you have to drive down the road to another hotel - last order 930. No spoiling the guests here. I go away a lot and I read reviews when choosing hotels. On the whole I find them helpful however I have no understanding, NONE how anyone could rate this hotel highly . The basics are not present - however the staff are very pleasant. I have given 2 stars as the bed linen is nice, the bed is comfortable and it is quiet. I paid £600 for two nights bed and breakfast as a solo guest which included 3 treatments.…
We booked the Maison Talbooth despite it being over twice as expensive as it’s sister hotel, Milsoms. Meals were provided at Milsons which is very close. The food was excellent. As regards the Maison Talbooth: The pool area was excellent The staff were very good I am giving three stars because the state of the room was not what I would expect for the price paid. It was in need of decoration. Paint was peeling. wallpaper was coming off the wall/ceiling. The bathroom was also, in my opinion, drab. My advice is that unless you want to swim save your money and stay at Milsoms
