When we arrived at the Mainstay after a very long day of travel by bus, we found the inn closed with a "no vacancy" sign on the door. The place still looked functional when looking through the windows, but our phone calls weren't even answered. At first, we thought that they had locked up for the night, because it was 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday night. We rang the bell and knocked many times to no avail. So at 9:00 p.m., we were lucky to find a room with two twin beds at the Bambury House. Since there were three of us, my youngest daughter agreed to sleep on the floor. When returning to Mainstay in the morning to see what was going on, it was apparent it was closed down. I booked this B&B in January, 2007 and had a very official confirmation. I also emailed the inn to confirm our reservation. I never received a response, but didn't ask for one. But the email address must be still functioning, because my email was not returned undelivered. It would have been nice if the proprietors had informed us that they were closing down. …
Great quiet location. Ruth and Gus are great hosts. Excellent breakfast. Order the frittata! If you’re lucky, you can catch Gus playing at a local pub.
We should like to sing the praises of the Mainstay Guesthouse B&B in Dingle, Ireland..... and of Ruth and Gus Cerone, its proprietors. The B&B is conveniently located in the center of town, so for us octogenarians it was wonderful. The place itself is congenial: nicely decorated and filled with all of the accoutrements which the transient guest requires. The breakfasts were wondrous: delicious. ample, varied and ever so pleasntly served. But especially nice were our hosts. Ruth was utterly charming and both were kind, understanding and helpful. What more can one ask? Leo and Mickey Sreebny
This was really a nice place for us after a long day of driving. The room was pleasant on a perfectly central but quiet street. The breakfast was really the best we had on our two weeks of Irish wandering. They also helped us find accommodations for a second night in Dingle when it seemed that everyone was totally booked. The Mainstay is a good choice!
We had a great time in Dingle, Co. Kerry Ireland! Our stay at the Mainstay Guesthouse made our holiday perfect. Our room was clean, bright and lovely. The owners Ruth and Gus are super helpful at answering all questions about what to do in town and what to see on the beautiful Dingle peninsula. The breakfast at the Mainstay was the best I had in all of Ireland. It's hard to decide what was better- the French toast or the frittata. I wish I was back there now!
