Having read the reviews I was dubious, but booked two double rooms. The rooms were very clean with crisp white linen and fluffy white towels in the en-suite, which had everything you need, and for a "bar with rooms" unusual. Tea and coffee making facilities very welcome and not always available in much larger establishments. Decor very nice. Owner/host, Declan, incredibly helpful - he waited until we arrived at 11.00 p.m. to give us the keys. Incredibly cheap. Will re-visit.
I stayed as i had done a run to cavan i only booked when i got to cavan as i had intended driving home. Room was basic but clean and tidy with ensuite. Went into bar in afternoon 2 TVs one showing tour de france and on showing golf had a pint while i watched some tv . Its very central has everything you need . But if you are a light sleeper its not the place for you as its over a pub which was very busy the Saturday i stayed but if i find myself having to stay in cavan again i would have no problem staying in mc cauls.
Only booked one night as we didn't know what to expect after reading negative reviews. I had to post a good well deserved review following our Easter break. When we arrived Declan made us feel very welcome our room was bright warm and very clean, basic but for the price we paid were more than pleased. Had tea coffee and biscuits in our room, hence the sign B&B (bed and biscuits). Everyone we met in restaurants or bars had time to make us feel welcome. Will definitely go back to Cavan and will definitely stay at Mccauls again. Went with another couple who agreed with my comments. Next time will be for two nights if we can stick the pace too many bars not enough time. Joyce/Brian Carol/Tommy
I booked and payed for a room on Expedia. I then drove to Cavan and parked my car. I then received a phonecall from the owner who told be the room was unavailable in a ignorant tone. I then checked my bank account and the money for the room had left my account. I called him back for a refund and he told me there was nothing he could do and to take it up with Expedia. I was lucky enough to find a hotel for the night. Stay clear of this kip and the ignorant clown who runs it.
This guesthouse is located very centrally in Cavan however that is the main benefit. Advertising as a B&B this is incorrect, its just the bed...breakfast is not included. The accommodation is extremely basic we were in a double room which the bed took up the most of. The ensuite again was very compact. The house smelt of damp as you entered, however the heat was on in our room and as it was so compact it was warm. The most basic accommodation and it should not be advertising as a B&B. Definitley better accommodation options in Cavan.
