Man hat eigentlich einen guten Platz zum Grillen auf der Terrasse / Biergarten. Nun, es wäre die Überraschung gewesen, aber dafür gabt es so manches anderes. Genug war es als Kuriosität hier in Windhoek im Hotel Thüringer Hof übernachtet zu haben und dies fast eine ganze Woche! - dies ist jetzt viele Jahre her, wir waren auf Silber-Hochzeit Reise und gefeiert wurde hier. Das Hotel hat heute viele Jahre auf dem Buckel, und ist weiterhin klein und eigentlich ammer noch fein! Falls man weiter reisen will, da ist es sicher ok, für ein, zwei Nächte. Das Hotel hat eine sehr gute Lage; - Bahnhof und Busabfahrten sind um die Ecke und auch ein Mietwagen Verleih! Der sehr günstige Ubernachtungpreis muss auch in Betracht genommen werden! Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal im Empfang/ Rezeption. Die Zimmer ok, in der Wärme sitzt man lieber Abends auf der Terrasse. Das Frühstück ist ok, wünscht man etwas/ fehlt was, so kan man einfach danach fragen! Trotz Bahnhof, liegt das Hotel in einer ruhigen Zone - so viel Züge gehen hier nicht :) NB. - ein herrlich erfrischendes Freibad hat Windhoek auch! (5-10 min.mit Taxi)…

Misrepresented - Major Identity Crisis - felt a bit cheated

I partly booked this hotel stay on 1) cost, 2) location, and 3) Expectation based on the Name. Cost - it suited my budget for this stay. Location - almost good, but given cost - I was satisfied. Expectation - Failed! I booked this stay as the "Protea Hotel By Marriott Windhoek Thuringerhof", but from what I can tell, Marriott has never had anything to do with this property. And certainly not up to the Marriott standard. Even as I write this review, there are booking sites selling this property under this name. Even in the lobby, there is a sign promoting the Windhoek Hilton. I don't think the property knows who they are. Putting aside the hotel's identity crisis; let's get to the experience; The property is very old, worn out and tired. During my stay, I only saw one other guest - also assigned a room on the first floor. This may have been because the elevator was not functioning, so they assigned only first floor rooms. There was also no assistance to help with getting bags up the stairwell, The room I was assigned was a large & generous room - putting it's age aside - I was actually very pleased with it. Everything functioned, and it was a very comfortable sleep. I suspect this may be a better than average room in this hotel. I ate in for dinner on this stay - the meal I had was well priced, generous portions and well cooked. But again, I was the only person... Felt deserted.…
