My friend and I recently stayed here for a long weekend (Jan 2009). The room itself was clean, but the place was straight out of 1986. It is ridiculous, because I'm sure this condo has paid for itself 10x since it was built. It was also annoying that the jacuzzi in the room did not function. The room alone I would rate as average. It was fine for what it was. The pool area is HORRIBLE. To start it is CARPETED around the pool and in the lockerrooms. It is disgusting. The jets in the spa did not work. There is visible mold in the lockerrooms. One can only imagine what is under the carpeting. As a former lifeguard I noticed things your average person wouldn't notice. 1) There was no rescue equipment. No hook/rescue buoy. 2) There was no automated defibrillator or first aid kit. 3) There was a phone, but IT DID NOT WORK. 4) There was no clearly indicated emergency exit. There is no excuse for these serious safety violations. They should be fined by the local authorities. Other annoying things. They do not salt the public walks ways, even though there are bags of salt in a locked storage by the in ground parking. I almost slipped like 3 times. The placed needs a serious remodeling. I understood this was not a super highend establishment, but give me a break. They have the money. At the least they should update the pool and other public areas.

The one bedroom unit we stayed in at the Liftside condos at the Keystone ski resort was reasonably priced, spacious, comfortable, had a great layout (which included a deck with a beautiful mountain view), nice furniture and was with walking distance of the chairlifts located in the Mountain House portion of the resort. However, some units, including our third floor condo, have no direct elevator service and the hot tub, available in a separate building, next door, was inconsistently heated. Our unit, unlike many ski condos we have rented previously, was large enough to entertain guests – which we did for one of the afternoons we were there. It had a great fireplace and was sufficiently stocked with seasoned firewood. Our son slept in the living room and loved going to bed within sight and warmth of the fireplace. The master bedroom had a king size bed and a mission style bed frame and furniture. The bathroom was large, had two sinks and a full size tub with jets that either didn’t work or that we could not figure out how they worked. Our unit’s shower initially had no water pressure and had relatively low pressure after it was repaired. Beyond the positive aspects, the biggest frustration with our unit was the lack of an elevator. We rented the condo directly from the owner, and since it was on the third floor, one of my first questions was whether the building had an elevator. The owner said yes, which is true, Liftside does have an elevator, but what I was not told is that it only serves the units on the first floor and only the second and third condos off the third stairway. That’s because the second and third floors are not connected through contiguous hallways. Instead, the second and third floor units which are accessed through the first, second and fourth stairways have no elevator service and are essentially “walk-ups”. However, the fourth floor has contiguous hallways, but the elevator only goes to the third floor. You must take the elevator to the third floor and walk up to the fourth level. If this sounds complicated, then you’re right, it was – we’ve never seen such a convoluted access design. In the interest of full disclosure, the owners of our condo told us that they did not recall our initial conversation on this subject and they said they would not have misrepresented or omitted the lack of elevator service. If hauling luggage, ski equipment (other than skis – there is a locker in the garage) and groceries up two to four flights of stairs at 9,000 feet above sea level is not a problem, don’t worry about the lack of this amenity. But if this doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, then I would stay away from the fourth floor units and only consider second and third floor condos which are served by the elevator. Again, you can reach the entire first floor from the elevator, which starts at the garage level. The hot tub was only a “warm” tub the first night we tried it – about 85 degrees. The second night is was okay – over 100 degrees. Garage parking space is limited and is first come, first served. If the garage is full, there are ample spaces in the outdoor lot in front of the building. Previous reviewers of Liftside commented on construction and repair of the building while they were there. We saw no evidence of this during our sta

We stayed at Liftside 10 days in February our condo had a great view of the river and slopes, great location walk right to the slopes, great deal for the money the the condo was beautiful, lots of extras and at a great price. My friend had a different unit that was about half as nice as the one we stayed in, so be careful which unit you rent. They have an indoor pool and hot tub but couldn't get in because the door was always locked and no one knew how to get in, they are not good about shoveling snow which was a problem at times. We had to walk around ladders and construction debris in the hall when we arrived and they were there when we left.

There are risks to staying at condos at the beginning of the ski season. (I was there during the first week of December, 2004.) At my building, maintenance people were still working on the drywall, and at times, the door to the condo building, which had to be activated with a magnetic card, was left open for them. Not good. It also appeared that the pool/hot tub area was also not open, although I was told that the area was. This area was also the area for the condos' laundry room. I was not sure whether the laundry room would be open or not. Alas, I did not have time to check it out. On the other hand, it was relatively quiet and relaxing. And I felt I got a bargain for staying there so early in the season. I had an oversized bathroom, a kitchen, a living room with a large television set, fireplace and dining area and a separate bedroom. There was even a stereo system with a CD player. I only wish I had thought of bringing along some of my own CDs with me. Maybe next time. Not far away is The Inn, a hotel where one can mail postcards (there are relatively few mailboxes in the Keystone area) and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or if one prefers something frumpier, The Goat restaurant, which has live music, is located closer to The Liftside. The Inn At Keystone is also located on a stop for the bus lines which serve the resort. If one takes a walk across a footbridge across the river in the back of The Liftside to a ski school (I think) and places where one can board the bus lines for the different areas of the resort and the bus line which links Keystone to the rest of Summit County. The latter trail is non-existent in places--in fact you have to walk on a driveway at times--and is not lit at night. Because the maps of the walkways and bus lines are poor, much of what I found about the walkways and bus stops was through trial and error.
