Aloha! Sorry to bother you so soon after your vacation but you have the only new review of Fenske Lake Resort. Our family of four (mom, dad, girl 15, boy 13) plan to spend two weeks in the Ely area next summer. It is a long and expensive trip from Maui so we want to get it right. Fenske LR looks just like what we would like for a week. Questions. The lake is small. Is it crowded with boats? clogged with weeds? anyplace to swim? we are novice fisherpeople. Are there fish? any kind will do! We love nature - no wild animals in Hawaii (cats, pigs, goats, rats etc.is about it ) other than whales. Any wildlife to be seen?I was born in Minnesota but have not been back for many years. Any cabin tips? How long to town for supplies?
Thank you very much and mahalo plenty!

Aloha! Wow that is quite a distance but you will love the Ely area. There were many times when we were the only people on the lake. Mostly it is kayaks and canoes with the occasional fishing boat. The motors on the boats are small since it is a no-wake lake. The water is crystal clear and there are lily pads but its not clogged with weeds. They have a swimming beach but my 7-year old son and I jumped off our dock many times. It definitely has fish and I had many bites. We visited the wolf and bear centers in town and those were interesting. I would recommend the bear center more highly. We actually saw a bear crossing the road near town but sightings are pretty rare. Be careful when driving as the deer are everywhere. The lake also has a family of loons and it was neat hearing them. Echo Trail, which is where the cabins are located, is recommended as a good area to see wildlife. It is very secluded yet town is only 20 minutes away. We also made a drive to Lake Superior, around an hour and 45 minutes, which was well worth it. There is no television and the cell phone signal is poor but our family enjoyed being unplugged. The only downside is that fact that there are no laundry facilities. We managed without for a week however you may need to hit a laundromat in town. Enjoy your trip.
