I've stayed at many Westin's throughout the US and abroad and unfortunately the Westin Times Square is just not up to Westin standards. Upon arriving we were told we had been moved to an upgraded room, upgrade consisted of being moved to a higher floor...
Service at check-in was great and the overall stay was pleasant given that it is very busy hotel. For 5 star hotel the amenities provided in the bathroom is very basic. Guess can't compared it to Asia.
We had family reunion in NYC and stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. Both our rooms were with the great view and very comfortable. Loved lobby area - nicely decorated and very cosy . You can enter hotel from two sides - one main...

This may not be exactly the answer your looking for, but I guarantee you your kids will flip out over (if they are old enough to understand what they are seeing). I hope you plan to visit the new top of the world trade center (The Freedom Tower). At the top is cafe you can grab lunch at if you're there to see the observation deck. The secret is that the cafe is fed by the same kitchen that serves the really fancy restaurant on the same level, so the food is amazing. Not exactly kid focused but they'll just be looking out the window the whole time (and so will you). BTW, if you do visit the observation deck of the new one world trade center, may I strongly recommend buying the VIP pass. It does cost more, but you'll zip by the crazy lines of tourists with regular tickets.

Cordiali saluti...
