While the property looked stupendous on the website and was recommended by a friend, the first interaction on the phone was a disappointment. We were looking for a suite room as adverstised on the website but learnt that it was still under construction. Our next choice of interconnecting rooms was not an option existing at the property. We then went for the next best thing, adjacent rooms. Checkin took too long which is where we got the first surprise, rates had changed since booking which meant that we ended up paying more than had budgeted. Rooms were spacious and well laid out expect for the column in the middle of one of our two rooms which indicated a bad design. Hiccups soon surfaced with the running hot water not being available due a failure of the solar water heaters at the property, for which we sympathised with the property dur to the incessant rains. The situation was rectified with buckets of water brought in by the housekeeping staff. Room service choices for breakfast were limited to south indian vegetarian staples of idli, dosa, poori etc but were nonetheless surprisingly well cooked and held up to a good standard than what one would come across in most other hotels in the malabar region which do not have the best vegetarian fare. Lunch with its combination of kerala and mughlai veg fare was very well done and presented a decent standard which again was better than one can hope for in most other hotels. Dinner with its mughlai flavors matched lunch. Suffice to say that while they may not have a great deal of choices, what they do have is done well. Sleep quality was good including bedding and the air conditioners were decent enough. A major design flaw in the rooms was the enclosed balcony which had the compressors of the rooms split ac blowing hot air thereby making it terribly hot. What logic possessed such a layout is beyond understanding. The bathtub in one of the rooms still had its installation plastic labels in place which was odd indeed. A towel rack in the same bathroom came apart during usage. Checkout was smooth and prompt. Over all a good stay but the people runnning the property should take care of the bits and pieces to retain guests. …
